21 Bridges Film Review:
Suspenseful and heavy, this film makes no attempt at a happy ending, but is well worth seeing. The grittiness of real life is made evident in the story line and carried well by all of the actors. Chadwick Boseman delivers a strong performance as Andre Davis, the emotionally-injured detective choosing righteousness over bitterness.
There are no winners in this film, and characters such as the police chief (portrayed by J.K. Simmons) and the partner assigned to work with Detective Davis (played by Sienna Miller) are presented in a way gives viewers a glimpse of the fact that under certain conditions, anyone might be subject to drift to the dark side.
Stephan James brings a believable complexity to his role as Michael, a less than villainous villain.
Overall, 21 Bridges is a solid film reminiscent of cop dramas built on plot and character development, rather than fight scenes and body counts.
