I really wanted to like it. I like Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo and Willam DaFoe. Like another reviewer said, it's like Frankenstein mixed with Island of Dr Moreau with steam punk, fantasy scenes...it's very beautiful. The content, on the other hand, seems like it's trying to have a deep message but it is lost in all the sex scenes with full male and female nudity. This movie would've surely been X rated twenty years ago. There's just so much of it, any kind of meaning to the story is muted. Also the main character was very inconsistent in the age she portrayed verbally and physically all throughout. It was a rough watch for me. I don't know how it got such a high score on rotten tomatoes. I would put it among the worst movies I've seen; so sorry Emma.
