Masterpiece! Not because it’s a Nolan’s film but because every single frame is handcrafted as that 70mm black & white created exclusively by Kodak for this film. Precious filming from physics explained with no maths to gripping storytelling. Oppenheimer’s life and controversial thinking is dissected by Nolan in an elegant depiction of Dr Oppenheimer testimony before a Macarthysm like investigation commission (only Nolan can turn a CSPAN-like broadcast into an epic homefront and Cold War narrative. But Nolan’s mastery is unbeatable when he goes deep into the tortured mind of someone who jumped enthusiastically into the Manhattan project to beat German tyranny and antisemitism and felt having blood in his hands after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He promised and delivered an American Prometheus. Now he is restoring him from denial.
