The harsh realities of the Dust Bowl and great depression were portrayed with the somber and intense anxieties the people experienced. The exhaustion, poverty and hopelessness were vividly expressed. This is a great book about the fortitude and tenacity one would need to survive such repeated hardships. The author did her homework but the realities of the time period and the toll it took on the characters was hard on my heart and soul.
