Yellowface is a heart-wrenchingly intimate examination of the state of humanity today, set against the backdrop of the publishing industry. It is unapologetic, sharp & incisive in its exploration of the moral dilemmas, opportunities and challenges that different races face - i.e. a white woman & a Chinese woman. Despite the weight of the topics are that Kuang explores, the narrative flows nimbly and is simply unputdownable (yes I'm coining this term). I flew through this book in 2 nights - testament to Kuang's ability to weave the constructs of an essay documenting the complexities of the publishing world, a thriller about a culturally-appropriating "manuscript-thief" and a drama about 2 frenemies effortlessly into 1 incredible page-turner.
There are not enough stars I can select to recommend "Yellowface" - it is the read you didn't know you had a craving for.
