Some of the stories approach excellence; others are slightly better than mediocre. As a collection they somehow transcend qualitative variance and conjure an elusive but consistent world view suspended between psychological fantasy and odd reality. Regardless of the quality and content of the stories, l love her writing style.
The Guest integrates the elements of her style without sacrificing the inherent tension. It's an exceptional book. For me, it was personal. I knew several girls like Alex and the portrayal was accurate and devastating.
My next read is The Girls.
