After the first couple of chapters, I did not think I would like it. I was uncomfortable reading about a young woman at the beginning of The Great Depression being emotionally and mentally beaten down by her own prominent family.
But the story line was so vivid, I was compelled to continue. An amazing story and easier to read than Steinbeck, but certainly evocative of The Grapes of Wrath.
Can we all just respect each other as citizens of Earth and look deeper than the color of our skins?
