Reading the reviews, I think this movie got more hate than it deserved. Most people complain about the ending being unrealistic, but the truth is people handle shock and trauma differently, and not everybody is a fighter. Yes I think the protagonist Dad should have jumped in the driver's seat when the antagonist got out to pee on the side of the road, but he probably wasn't thinking clearly. Haven't you ever had an event happen that feels so unreal all you can do is watch like it's happening to someone else and not you? I've had a few. Also the dad did fight a couple times in the car, and the mom certainly did when her daughter was taken away, and I can understand the parents' defeat after losing her. Even if they did escape at that point, they are most likely never seeing her again, and that might have been too much to live with. I watched the American version too, and I love James McAvoy, but the original deserves an equal amount of recognition. But if you want a happy ending, then yes watch the American version.
