This movie wasn't good but it wasn't horrendous either. While it was laughable, there were some good bits of horror sprinkled throughout, yet it still did have many flaws; an example being a death of one character that took me a while to realise was being killed using acid rather than my initial impression of boiling water.
M3gan was entertaining for the wrong reasons, some scenes felt like they didn't fit with the overall atmosphere or tone of the film, or were intended to be eerie, but came off as amusing and funny.
The pacing and thought process of some, if not all, of the characters was unrealistic and were leaping over some serious steps of reasoning and logic. One in particular is a scene where Cady tries to stab her therapist with a pair of scissors in a fit of rage, which -realistically- would've made her therapist talk to Gemma (the aunt) and try and get some serious help for Cady rather than letting her go out when she proves to be a threat if she's provoked again. To be fair to the film though, that could just be me over analysing, however, having Cady be sent somewhere to help her could've made a much more interesting development and plot rather than what was actually made.
Overall, this movie takes quite a few swings and has a tendency to miss or make it into the wrong ball-park rather than actually achieving its goal. It relied heavily on the unsettling idea of AI becoming sentient, and I would even argue M3gan's appearance, rather than any actual proper horror/slasher steps it could've taken. It feels like a movie that had potential, but wanted to keep a lower rating than what would've been ideal and therefore made it completely underwhelming.
