Wow, just saw this film and its one of the best, most unique horror movies I have seen in a long time. The film is about a man who finds a strange women knocking on his door at night and the suspense and buildup throughout the engagement trying to figure out (much like the characters) what the hell is going on is EXACTLY what I love in a horror film, when its wrapped up in a mystery as well.
Now for the ending that I have yet to see anyone actually understand (im sure theres a few of you), which has seemingly caused it to get mediocre reviews (outside of those with bad taste) shows that you honestly cant put too much thought into a movie or the masses deem it bad because they simply didn't get it.
SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So the ending. People think he just "died" as someone put it. That it was all a dream and "nothing really happened and nothing was explained" as another put it. "Was nonsense" as another put it. It wasn't, if anyone bothered to watch the movie and listen, it was given, when the girl mentions God that the old man says "God doesn't exist, the closest thing is your conscious, that tiny voice inside your head". He had stayed up for days, not sleeping. He was paranoid, wracked with guilt, he wanted to disappear and that thing, his conscious, God, whatever you want to call it, brought him to justice. In the throws of delusions from overwhelming guilt + lack of sleep, his sub conscious does exactly what he knew he should have done the whole time, what he really wanted, what he DESERVED, and he put his GHB into his Whiskey and drank. He falls over because he drank enough GHB to kill 5 people. No one did find him, he found himself, that part of him, when he was a kid, and life was good, found him and put an end to him.
The point being there are 2 sides to every person. Not everyone is born evil, but things happen that can change you. The good and the bad side of you are in a battle, sometimes the bad wins and stays winning, sometimes the good comes out and does what it knows it should when the bads gone too far.
This was an extraordinary film and tapped into a line of psychology rarely used in horror movies. It was completely unique and well done in every aspect. Its exactly the kind of gem I hope to find when browsing these lesser known films. I give a well deserved 5 stars.
