Reviews for this show are polarised with a number criticising it for deviating at all from the book or criticising its decision to have a more diverse cast than the book.
Most of the decisions made are perfectly reasonable to adapt the format for the screen, with a few extra characters helping to narrate what’s going on or provide a few extra shocks. The cast’s diversity is not an issue for me but each to their own.
The series itself though, ie what we are all here for, is an entertaining and well paced adaptation. The cast on the whole do their jobs well and some of the moments in the season are fantastic - the end of episode 5 with Judgment Day being a real standout moment!
I’ve recommended this show to several people who have not read the books and they’ve also really enjoyed it. It’s well worth anyone’s time to take in the first season and see if you want more. But if season 2 onwards sticks close to the original material I think we'll be in for a great ride.
