Philip Penn

The plot of Ip man 4 is strikingly similar to ip man 2. Ip sets foot on a foreign habitat where he has to earn the respect of a new clique of masters, and starts off on a bad note with the leader of the clique. Ip and the new clique eventually become allies in the face of the injustice set upon them by the racist white imperialists. The leader of the Chinese masters goes down after a respectable fight against the main antagonist, and Ip saves the day by defeating the baddy. Positives: decent development of relationship between ip and his son, great fight scenes as usual Negatives: cringeworthy villains due to grossly in your face depictions of racism (makes ip man 2 seem tame in that regard), the long anticipated Bruce lee fight was disappointing, ip man’s battle with cancer was only mentioned and somehow didn’t hinder him at all in fights Entertainment value: 9/10 Plot: 6/10
