There has been a recent upturn in IP movies that feel written like a deviant art fan fiction and yet do everything right with it. The animation is stunning, the voice cast is better than we gave credit, and all the references to not just Mario but also many other Nintendo franchises of late 80s. All this comes together to create a cohesive and often times comical narrative that doesn’t bog itself down to just one game, but expands to almost all aspects of the Mario Franchise. With movies like Detective Pikachu, Sonic, and now Mario paving the way for a new era of Video Game movies made with effort, action, humor, and references galore, the future is bright for other franchises to make that leap to the big screen.

This makes no sense. Everything in this movie is nonsensical and had me yelling at the screen in agony. This makes the 60s sound believable.

Everyone feels so perfectly cast when interacting with each other. The soundtrack is something special. It’s Gritty, it’s evil, it’s very good to be bad
