I thought doctor shows have been so overrated, but this one I really love. Lots of reviews focus on Ryan egged, but its the supporting cast that I really love. the content, I also love.
its the first show that I've seen that focuses on harm reduction practices + the state's response to it (which is getting arrested). It also shows the beginning steps of acknowledging the land that settlers have taken from the indigenous people, and asks quite a few questions of what to do to make things right, AND NOT JUST FOR PERFORMANCE'S SAKE.
I also love that it explores the complexity of doctor vs patient relationships. Do you save a white supremacist on the operating table? What to do if your patient's parent's are racist/ homophobic/ transphobic? What do you do as a psychiatrist with an eating disorder is meeting with a patient who also faces the same issue? Is medicine really as objective as it claims to be?
I think it does a great job of exploring sexuality, parenthood and most of all the pervasive and subtle ways that capitalism runs quietly in the background of everything, the caustic and ruinous substance and structure that it is.
