Along with the Untamed, this is one of my fave cdramas I have seen. I've never left a review before but this show really impressed me so I wanted to promote it.
Firstly, the show's message about gender equality and feminism was delivered really well. At first it may seem like an in-your-face kind of thing, but the way in which it was delivered allowed the audience to learn the importance of gender equality themselves as the show progressed. I think the metafictional aspect really allowed this message to be delivered in a smart way.
Secondly, the characterisation was also unique as the show subverted many stereotypes. I often skip subplots in cdramas and just watch the main leads but for this show I found myself unwilling to skip anything. I also liked how empowering the female lead's character was and even her subtle comments on gender equality. Well, not just the female lead but many of the female characters were empowering. It was also really refreshing to see character development for many of the characters and all undergoing their own unique journey. Often chinese romance dramas focus on fostering chemistry between the leads and present obstacles for the leads which have the aim of making them closer but i liked how obstacles allowed for more character growth as well as for the sake of chemistry.
Thirdly, the dialogue was powerful. I found myself laughing and crying. The music also helped foster these feelings. Often dialogue can be stereotypical and cheesy but even if some parts may be regarded as such, I think the dialogue here was suitable given all the other things I have mentioned and carries meaning more purposefully.
Lastly, and importantly, the chemistry between the leads was definitely there. Watching the actors off-camera reaffirmed their chemistry. I won't comment much on this because chemistry should be the standard of all dramas and I rather bring attention to what I have mentioned previously.
