I did not know this story, and I don't know how true to reality it is. But this version was believable and well-acted. If nothing else, it made me want to know more about these men and the origins of the OED. I was loathe to watch Mel Gibson in anything, but he deserves credit for the excellent acting he did to bring this character to life. Sean Penn as well.

The most affecting film I have ever seen. I find no consolation for the human misery that permeated these lives in the face of stony indifference. No wonder. Those who live in the midst of this misery must be hardened to human suffering in a way that leaves no hope. This middle eastern tale of hopelessness mirrors the misery of the Central and South Americans who come to our borders seeking refuge from the ravages of climate change and gang crime only to be shunned as "rapists and murderers."
