The Souvenir feels like the early work of a director who will soon be great. Give it your full attention, through quiet snippets of dialogue, some poetry, and brooding scenery, and you’ll enjoy an intellectual work-out. If you’re a film buff, it’s fun to watch the director build the scenes and recurring metaphors. But beware, this is a slow-paced art film without many big rewards for the audience.
