"Arty" b/w films can so often be disappointing. But not Roma. Let's first mention the quite superb camera work and highly accurate and entertaining early 1970s atmosphere, even a few bars of Mary Hopkins "Those Were The Days" from 1969 in one street scene. The topics covered in the Movie are resoundingly honest, and although I've never been to Mexico I have Spanish family and recognise characteristics of life all too familiar from suburban Madrid. Stick with it! It's like watching paint drying at first! but it's a movie you'll remember watching forever.
