It’s an unapologetically fun movie. Full of jokes and violence. Just like the other two. To the people complaining about offensive jokes. It’s Deadpool, cry about it. To the people complaining it’s not for kids. It’s rated R, kids shouldn’t be watching it.

Neat twist, if you ignore the fact that it makes the movie completely unbelievable. You’re telling me that a little 90 pound girl took out grown men who are professional killers?

With all the terrible shows out there, Resident Alien is a rare gem. It manages to not only be incredibly amusing, but it touches on more serious topics without sounding preachy. It will make you laugh, and then make you shed a few tears with an incredibly touching moment. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that is a rare thing nowadays. The characters themselves are amazing. Alan Tudyk gives a great performance as the socially inept alien who is learning to be human. Sara Tomkos Asta is not only strong, but she doesn’t lose her charisma. Resident Alien is definitely a show worth watching.

I’m a little concerned at some of the 5 star reviews that claim to be medical professionals and are raving about how “accurate” this show is, it only affirms how much I hate hospitals. Anyway, it’s extremely dramatic, pretty much no one behaves how they would in real life, all the doctors are sleeping with each other blah blah blah. It gets pretty political, first it’s immigration, then it’s battling the insurance companies, now it’s abortion, hot tip to the showrunners, even states that are restrictive on abortion have exceptions for when the life of the mother is in danger, quit being stupid.

If you enjoy being bombarded with psychological jargon, half of which is being applied incorrectly and constant social and political commentary, then this show is for you. I was drawn to this show thanks to Jesse L Martin being the lead (loved him as Joe West and the other cop roles he was in) but it quickly became apparent that this is not a good role for him. His character displays a constant smugness and sense of superiority that is a massive turn off.

Eh. I thought it was kinda silly. I’m not an incredibly religious person, but I thought the acting was pretty good. Leaned kinda heavily into to the religious stuff, but I don’t think it was “right wing religious propaganda” as the one star reviews say it was. It’s just a cheesy psychological thriller flick. Don’t think too hard about it. BTW, my liberal mom liked it, so clearly it’s not “right wing fear mongering”. Most of those 1 stars are atheists trying to be edgy, my personal favorite was the one where the person compares the Bible to Harry Potter.

So, now that I’ve watched the first episode. It is profoundly meh. It’s not bad, but it’s not great either. Firstly, I thought we were promised a project faithful to the source material? From Percy’s first encounter with Ms. Dodds, to getting Riptide, to the entire character of Sally Jackson. It seems like some kind of weird fanfiction. The first episode takes tremendous liberties with scenes from the book, and then adds unnecessary moments. Like Grover turning on Percy and getting him expelled. Or Sally Jackson’s lady in the rain scene. They just seem out of place. They also totally changed Gabe’s character, he’s an abusive monster in the books, but in this, he just comes off as goofy. So again, I have to ask, where exactly is the extreme faithfulness to the source material? Now, there are some good parts, I enjoyed Percy’s actors performance a lot more than I thought I would. I would like a little more of the sass that he had in The Adam Project, which lovers of the Percy Jackson books are all too familiar with. I enjoy Mr. Brunners (Chirons) sage-esque demeanor. I’m glad the Minotaur was in his underwear. From what I have seen so far, I was correct to manage my expectations. There is still potential. But with the liberties I’ve already seen taken with both events and characters, I do not think this series is or will be the masterpiece that the five star ratings say it is. I think they are blinded by nostalgia and ideology.

Now that I’ve seen it. I don’t really understand the hype. For one thing, a year has passed between the last one and this one, but somehow, Miles Morales is still full of turmoil, I thought the last one was supposed to be his coming-of-age, where he learns what it means to be Spider-Man. So, nothing really happens for the first 90 minutes or so. Finally in the last little bit of the movie, all the excitement happens and then it suddenly ends. Again, I’m not really sure where all the hype for this movie came from, Into the Spiderverse is far superior, but I will admit, I really like this animation style.
