I did not enjoy this movie.
The mystery was one of the best I’ve seen in years. I’m not a huge paranormal fanatic but this movie did everything right in that regard. A mysterious evil entity that is physically out of our control and spreading like a virus builds amazing mystery and excellent originality depending on how it’s handled, which the premise of the idea itself was handled well. The jump scares we’re creative and well timed, I enjoyed every one of them. However while there was a lot I liked about it, there’s just as much I didn’t enjoy.
Half the characters were not at all fun to watch. The sister went from typical brainless annoying deva mom, to actually capable of a conversation. Her husband offered nothing and was hardly worthy for a background role. He was just a guy who tucked his tail to his deva wife and served as a poor comedic relief where it hardly belongs. Rose’s shrink was annoying and barely gave her a chance to speak for herself and led Rose to the conclusion the shrink already came to with no effort to listen, which is a curse that almost all the characters carry towards Rose.
All of them see her as crazy, which would make sense and be very well delivered considering Rose herself is a counselor and viewed her patients as those viewed her, but it’s as if the realm of ghost or evil spirits was never a concept in this films world. They make it so obvious and again, it effects every character except the cop.
Also the ending. It makes sense and I enjoyed it. It’s a really solid conclusion given the concept and setting, however I was left rolling my eyes due to the bland copy paste character personalities and really slow pacing. So many scenes that just dragged things on and did not need to happen. Just more horrific scenes that, while done well, didn’t add to what we already knew and just dragged out time.
What this movie had in concept and visuals, lack d in character and pacing. Personally did not enjoy.
