I can see why people loved Halloween ends. I can see why fans hated it also.
So… my thoughts were that I did enjoy it, I understood what they were trying to do with the Corey character and that was brave and ambitious. It did help to explain more clearly the nature vs nuture debate about what happens to humans through this roller coaster we call life and what the outcomes are of severe mental health and fear/isolation and what they look like at their worst. In addition the kills were mostly different and unique and the pair up of the two killers was really enjoyable and interesting for the most part. The fight at the end was awesome between Michael and Laurie and one reason why I’ll watch it again. His final demise and “burial” was also shocking.
However what I didn’t like about the movie were 3 things. First Michaels complete loss of strength AND lack of screen time. Not cool considering the title of the film and why it’s been going on for 44 years. That made no sense. Second was Lauries screen time was also too little. Both the most famous film serial killer in film history and the screen queen were almost side lined and felt like extras at times…. For the final Halloween?? Especially as when they did show up their acting was surperb, this wasn’t a good decision. Michael should have had more kills and feats of strength and reminders as to why you don’t mess with the boogyman. But the third and final thing that I HATED with a passion and wish I could delete from my memory was Corey crawling back into the sewers and having brawl with Michael like a school play ground fight!!? Writers and producers… THAT was an awful awful mistake, allowing some teenager to push michael around like he is nothing and nick his mask? Our favourite serial killer lost all respect, credibility, fear and sense of mystery. It was laughable and demeaning to someone audiences have feared for 44 years and (despite people criticising the franchise) come back to pay to watch another sequel. That one scene made him a joke and after that there wasn’t any fear about michael anymore.
All in all I did enjoy it I would have swapped just a few scenes out as described as above to make it more of goodbye to the original 1978 Halloween. Ultimately it gets 6.5/10
