It was very entertaining with great performances by Kenneth Branaugh, Emma Thompson, Derek Jacobi, and Robin Williams. It's a comedy, so there are lots of gags, but the gags are unexpected and funny. Fabulous costumes, especially for Emma Thompson, and authentic looking indoor and outdoor sets. Filmed in black and white for that noir look.

I am disappointed in this production. The plotline drags, and the actors seem to be just going through the motions in portraying their characters, except for Lindsay Duncan, who never gives less than 100 percent to whatever character she plays. The locations are beautiful, and the costumes are excellent, but the acting and the writing do not elevate this series to the level of believability that would make it truly excellent.

A complex plot that is somewhat hard to follow, but nevertheless delivers an engrossing plot with excellent performances by top-notch actors. The dramatic lighting is very well executed and black and white is definitely the best choice for a war movie set in the 1940s.
