I honestly thought this movie was going to be like one of those "If you remember this then you are a child of... " posts. Particularly triggering when the kid gets beaten as that was completely acceptable back in the day and completely abusive. I grew up in the same era and I remember the same feelings of confusion and embarrassment in relation to adults to whom I was related and their overt bigotry. As an artist I can truly relate to the parental disapproval of any pursuit that didn't serve the almighty dollar bill. I made it my mission to raise kids who were never exposed to any of that in their own household. The movie was quite poignant and living in a remote suburb of New York City and seeing the cultural evolution just in the last 15 years gives me hope. I hope that the message of this film reverberates as it should.
