I watched "Egoist" completely blind—no trailer, no synopsis, just a random pick for a fun watch. At first, I thought it was going to be your typical love story between two men. But to my surprise, it turned out to be a heartbreaking tale.
The emotional impact hit me like a ton of bricks. One of the characters dies unexpectedly, and I was left devastated, thinking, "Why, why?" It was such a sudden and intense twist that I couldn't shake off. This film quickly became one of my favorites because of how deeply it affected me.
I've seen some reviews saying the film lacks emotional depth or powerful scenes. While I get where they're coming from, I actually liked Daishi Matsunaga's straightforward direction. For me, the simplicity made the emotions even more intense. "Egoist" might not be perfect, but its raw and unfiltered feelings make it a truly memorable experience to watched.
