The book has many thought provoking examples of trust gone awry.
The book leads us down many paths where the results of trust has dire consequences. When the stakes are high, trust must be earned, not assumed. The book exposes examples of even when scrutiny is applied, the results are flawed.
When the stakes are low, as is the case in most daily interactions, trust can be assumed, as the risks and burden of proof are not worth the time and effort.
The profiling example is disconcerting and has gotten out of hand for those whose trust is suspect and targeted...and the consequences are often extreme.
Civil societies can function with most interactions assuming trust, but when the stakes are high, trust in “talking with strangers” necessitates scrutiny...yet many of those evaluating trust reach flawed conclusions. There are many interpretations to a work of art, as there are many interpretations to a person’s soul, some accurate, some flawed.
