I love this movie so much that I’ll be watching it for third time this weekend!
Even though this movie brings up the topic of death and the afterlife, I felt like the movie was less about death, and more about your reason for living- “What makes you get out of bed every morning?” ‘Soul’ explores that answer for the passionate and the non-passionate.
As a music educator, I was crying from the very beginning! This movie has come out at a time when music programs are extremely modified to fit online learning or have been canceled altogether. There are music teachers and music majors going through their programs feeling like teaching is their job to pay the bills, while playing is their real career (Note: this does NOT mean all music educators are dying to be performers. Just highlighting those who consider teaching as their safety net). If you fit this description or have a passion you can’t live out right now, this movie will get you emotional.
*Possible spoiler*: This movie also reminds us of the power of words. Just because people don’t know what to do with their life or seemingly do nothing, doesn’t mean their hopeless. Be kind and encourage others!
