UGH! I have read this book uncountable times, it’s my 2nd favorite of all time, & it is clear the director of this movie didn’t read it once. This movie does to “Persuasion” what “Anne With an E” does to “Anne of Green Gables”, except that AWAE actually somewhat gets the heroine’s personality correct. They makes so many absolutely unnecessary changes, all nuance is lost, they don’t develop the characters enough, & it just generally causes Jane Austen to roll over in her grave for what has to be the millionth time. If you are wholly unfamiliar with this story, you might enjoy the movie. But do not watch this movie in lieu of Cliffsnotes - you’ll get a D.
