We Live In Time is a simmering romantic drama anchored by the exceptional chemistry of Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, with Garfield delivering yet another outstanding performance. While the film explores weighty themes of love, mortality, and grief, it never quite allows its emotional moments to fully resonate, often pulling back before they can settle. Its nonlinear structure is effective, capturing how past and present intertwine, but the story remains frustratingly safe. Despite its shortcomings, the film is a refreshing showcase of its leads’ talent outside of franchise fare.

This exceeded all expectations, delivering one of the best comic book TV adaptations in recent memory. What could have been a typical cash grab became an engaging, character-driven masterpiece. Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti delivered phenomenal performances, with Sofia standing out as one of the year’s most unhinged yet rootable characters. The dynamics between Oz and key figures like Sofia, his mother, and Vic added depth, revealing different facets of his journey. With a compelling rags-to-riches plot, excellent pacing, and brilliant acting, this show is a must-watch and a serious Emmy contender.

In Amaran (2024), Sivakarthikeyan gives a career-defining performance as Major Mukund Varadarajan, embodying the soldier’s bravery, resilience, and humanity with remarkable depth. Director Rajkumar Periasamy’s meticulous attention to detail brings extraordinary realism to this biographical tribute, skillfully balancing Mukund’s military achievements with his personal life. Sai Pallavi shines as Indhu Rebecca Varghese, Mukund’s partner, adding emotional weight to the story. The decision to present the narrative from her perspective infuses it with a heartfelt romantic angle, beautifully executed. GV Prakash’s score enhances the stirring visuals and action sequences, amplifying the film’s emotional impact. Amaran is an authentic, moving portrayal of sacrifice and love, best experienced on the big screen.

This film offers a refreshing blend of humor, social commentary, and human drama set against the backdrop of cricket and ego, marking an impressive debut for Tamizharasan Pachamuthu. Every element – from the storytelling, dialogues, and cinematography to the music and casting – aligns perfectly, enhancing the experience. The seamless integration of Vijayakanth-Vijay songs adds a delightful touch, especially in the climax. The cast shines with ‘Gethu’ Dinesh’s dynamic portrayal, and Bala Saravanan’s sharp comic timing. Sean Rolden’s soulful tracks “Chillanjirukkiye” and “Aasa Orave” resonate deeply, and his background score amplifies key moments. Though it takes some cinematic liberties, Lubber Pandhu ultimately delivers a wholesome and engaging experience.

This is a bold, ambitious take by Hip Hop Tamizha on a dystopian future, set in Chennai, 2028. With a complex storyline involving global conflicts and India’s neutral stance, the film explores weighty themes rarely attempted in Tamil cinema. Despite an impressive concept, powerful cinematography, and an engaging first half, the film suffers from underdeveloped characters, inconsistent writing, and misplaced humor that undermine its serious tone. The VFX and technical aspects are commendable, but ultimately, stronger writing could have elevated this creative venture.

This is a heartfelt journey that beautifully explores love, nostalgia, and human connection. Directed by Prem Kumar, the film brings to life the subtle poetry of everyday moments, supported by a moving performance from Karthi as a joyful, authentic village lad, and Arvind Swamy as his introspective, grounded counterpart. Their seamless chemistry breathes life into tender, relatable exchanges, making even the simplest moments deeply resonant. With poignant writing, nostalgic direction, and soul-stirring cinematography, Meiyazhagan lingers long after the credits, offering a uniquely cathartic experience.

After watching Vaazhai, I was left almost speechless, reminiscent of Nagesh’s dialogue in Vasool Raja: “Adhepdi da nee ena adikala, kollala. Aana usura matum thaniya uruvi eduthuta?” This film is a poignant coming-of-age story that shines a light on the harsh realities faced by children in the labor class, who sacrifice their childhood to support their families. Maari Selvaraj not only shares his life experiences but educates us on suppressed historical injustices that challenge systemic problems. Through the lens of two child protagonists, Vaazhai powerfully juxtaposes innocence with the brutality of violence, abuse, and casteism, leaving viewers with a profound respect for resilience and a heavy heart.
