A shining template for thrillers, one of the best examples as to why the 70's remain the Best decade in cinema history. All performances are right on target and given by some of the greatest character-actors you've seen--and you know them all. David Shire's music would make any film composer jealous, and inspired. Before watching, Google director, Joseph Sargent. Read through his TV and film resume: every time you recognize something you've seen, and say, "He did THAT!?!--take a drink! (this is my first official Drinking Game) P.S.--and I can't stress this with enough clarity--AVOID the remake at all costs.

So many things occur in this film for no discernable reason whatsoever that one could make a drinking game of it. Except you'd be drunk in no time. Everyone's a Vogue-perfect teenager in this decrepit world. They Run for no reason, Climb Buildings just because, Hop Trains 'cause they're there, Jump From Said Trains--well, you get the picture. I'd summarize the plot, but I couldn't find one. This sci-fi insult to your intelligence is strictly for the Tween Crowd. You've been warned.

Years ago, I was walking through a bad neighborhood in the south-west section of Providence, RI. I was brutally assaulted by a small group of "youtes" who took great pleasure putting me on the receiving end of brass knuckles. My jaw needed to be wired shut, my chin required twenty-three stiches, and, frankly, l was lucky to be alive. That incident was far less painful than having to sit through this movie. ...yup.

Simply put, a masterpiece. AND, Luc Besson accomplished this in under 85 minutes, not counting credits. Rod Serling would've been proud. Interesting to note that Lucy seems destined to become the most powerful being in ALL cinema. Yoda?!--don't make me laugh. And Superman?!, who must reverse the rotation of Earth in order to travel just a few minutes back in time--don't make me laugh again. Worth your time and then some. Put it in your collection and keep it there.

My favourite film. This movie is so powerful that I haven't gone swimming in the ocean since September of 1975--and I live in Rhode Island, the Ocean State! Impeccable acting, a master class. Robert Shaw telling the story of The Indianappolise should be taught in every acting school everywhere! For those of you who haven't yet seen it--buckle up. This is Mr. Spielberg's greatest film. ...and he's made a few others!

Arguably Clint's best Western, and one of his personal favourites. All-around greats in supporting cast, cinematography, music, stunts, etc. Endlessly qoutable. If you're a fan of the genre and don't have this in your arsenal, shame on you.

Do your best imitation of Sheldon Lee Cooper's Mom while reading this next sentence; "Oh Dear Lord, when will this Evil Franchise ever end?" 😱

The only film I know of that gives a credit to "foosball coach." This is just the type of slick-enough-entertainment to fool twelve-year-old girls into thinking they're watching a super-natural epic. Gratuitous parade of shirtless guys, college girls who all seem to sleep in various selections from the Victoria's Secret catalogue, ridiculous dialogue, and silly wire-work all combine for another Renny Harlin celebration of cinema mediocrity, strictly for the Tween Crowd.

Independence Day begins with a kind of giddy anticipation. Sci-fi geeks the world over (myself included) had salivated upon seeing the White House explode in the trailer, and, after that, you're expecting the most exciting Alien Invasion Movie ever made. Well, you're not going to get that. What you DO get is a decent build-up to a massive extraterrestrial fireworks display (that lasts about two minutes and thirty seconds), deservedly winning the Oscar for best special effects of 1996. And it's all downhill from there. Ludicrous characters, laughable dialogue, and over-the-top performances sink this like the Titanic. See 1953's War of the World's instead. Or Battle: Los Angeles. Or Skyline.

The More You Know: Idris Elba is far better than this, Beyonce never will be, and Ali Larter, bless her heart, is the only one earning her paycheck. I've seen twenty Lifetime channel movies, using the same script, come off ten times better. The soundtrack telegraphs every scene, atrociously. And if all that isn't enough, try to figure out who's more psychotic--The Temp or The Wife? ...enjoy.
