I just watched the movie today. Honestly, I feel a little bit out of place. The movie is losing the "kung fu panda vibe" that I love initially.
Anyway, there are several confusing plot that bothers me.
1. The villain backstory.
It was said that the chameleon villain arc started after she was bullied when she was trying to learn kung fu. She said that people thought she is too little and her appearance doesn't suit the kung fu world.
I mean, remember Mantis? Hello? How tiny he is?
Rather than trying to look for other kung fu masters around the world, the chameleon decided to learn scorcery instead.
The villain motivation doesn't make much sense. It's weak.
2. Zhen as the dragon warrior successor.
I think Zhen doesn't have strong value or characteristics. We can barely differentiate her personality from other characters in the show.
Throughout the movie, I can't stop thinking of Zhen as Judy Hops from Zootopia. In a matter of fact, I find it easier to feel sympathy for Judy Hopps rather than Zhen. I find it hard to care about Zhen's journey at all.
You know, I think it will be much cooler if the dragon warrior successor is Tigris. Bring back the Furios 5, and complete their story full circle! It'll be way more dramatic and fulfilling. I mean, Tigris has a strong foundation knowing her dreams, passion and dedication to be the savior for people in need. I mean, this would be a great plot twist too.
3. Po as the next spiritual leader.
What happened, for god's sake?
Po doesn't feel like someone who went trough a tough character development. At all. I almost can't see the trace of his previous personal accomplishment. His inner peace is almost nonexistent. His fighting skill in the street feels so-so.
And, he feels like stop growing in this movie. No special accomplishment or character development that strengthen his position as the next spiritual leader that will bring peace to the valley. (God, I missed Master Oogway).
_______
Nothing iconic in this movie. All characters are easily forgetable. There are several scenes and information that didn't do much to the plot.
I mean... yeah. It is what it is.
