This game was a disappointing swing and a miss. Big miss. Don't even waste your time or money on this game. I'll explain:
Fire Emblem: Three Houses was an absolutely riveting game, intense and moving storyline, huge array of diverse and complex characters, many choices for the storyline direction itself, fantastic animations, variety in weaponry / magic arsenal, and had really good organizational systems, battle systems, you had actual rewards for running around the monestary and interacting with the characters and your choices mattered, fun and interesting character development and interactions - simply put, everything about the game (including the DLC, which I did get) was entirely worth every penny and every minute spent playing the game. I would say this is Fire Emblem's best game was Three Houses.
All where Fire Emblem: Three Houses excels is where Fire Emblem Engage fails.
This game has pretty and sparkly animations, but has a storyline that is predictable and almost childish.
All you do is walk around a small map, fight monsters that are on medium difficulty, sometimes unlock an old character from previous games that aids you slightly in fights, and feed a dog named Sommie.
That is about the most interesting parts of this game when it should not be.
There are no reasons to get this game when Fire emblem: Three Houses is far more superior and well worth the 60$ price tag. This game, Fire emblem: engage, is not worth the price nor the time spent.
I had high hopes for Fire emblem: engage especially after playing Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Hoqever, the new game is a disappointment.
The character interactions aren't relevant and don't matter, the "bond conversations" are not interesting, the storyline is watered down greatly and predictable, it seems the story just lags forever and you fight so many battles before even continuing the story and by that time, you forget what was even being fought for in the story.
This game is little more than the mobile game being given a different platform with a slight free roam aspect. It does not have a map nearly as big as "the monistary" from Three Houses, and that is not a good thing because you've spent a short time just walking around a short distance just to collect some sparkly food items, and talk to characters where their lines do not change (so you stop talking to them anyway), and feed a dog in that world. That is basically the "free roam" that Fire Emblem: Engage is.
You don't bond with characters in the same deep, emotional way in Engage that you were able to do in Three Houses. There is an oddly huge amount of children characters that you cant get out of adding to the team, (which gets annoying, hearing whiny child voice actors after a few hours of playtime)
and you don't get to choose the diaglogue like in Three Houses so basically you're a smiling nobody that just gives encouragement and all the issues in the game are so solvable with "happiness and the power of working together" that there are no real problems.
The storyline is lukewarm and shallow.
The cast characters are basic and boring
It just throws back to old characters in a new art style. Nostalgia cashgrab.
