The Road was a heart wrenching thought provoking film. Deeply disturbing with no happy ending in site. You are only granted tiny moments where you are relieved, grateful for the small things while simultaneously devastated at the enormity of what this father and son endure. If your an action junkie this movie probably isn’t for you. If you are in a state of depression or recently lost a loved one this movie likely isn’t for you while in this state or at least I wouldn’t personally recommend it. I wouldn’t watch it again, not because it was a bad film but because for me, once was plenty. If you are a thinker or a deeply empathetic person, someone who was close to and/or has cared for an ill parent or child you will find yourself in tears throughout most of this film. It impacted me so much that it was the first thing I thought of when I awoke the following morning and scenes of this film have lingered in my mind throughout the day.
It’s definitely worth watching at least once although this isn’t a popcorn and snacks kind of film. It’s a cuddle up with a glass of wine humbling film that makes you reevaluate what’s important in life and makes you thankful for YOUR life no matter how good or bad because this film perfectly illustrates the idea that things could be much much worse for humanity and instantly makes you grateful that it is not!
