A challenging, fresh breath of air in a franchise that really needed it. Probably the single best game since HeartGold/SoulSilver version back in '09.
It does lack the trainer battles of older games, but what it lacks in battles with trainers it makes up for it with the single most fun experience you'll ever have completing a pokedex. Wild mons scale damage rather than having their damage locked to their level meaning that even with a 10/15 level advantage one will still need to tread carefully - especially considering there can be battles of up to 5v1 (if not more, 5 is simply the most I've battled at once). Abilities and held items are missing, but the introduction of Agile/Strong style moves and improved movesets (DRAIN PUNCH INFERNAPE BABY) keeps battling fresh and changes how one may view older mons.
This feels like a love letter to older fans and, even with the graphical failings, manages to capture what once made this franchise so outstanding. If you love this series, do yourself a favour and get this game and enjoy the next 100+ hours in Hisui.
