I lived in Appalachia for 5 years and did service work in the hollers during my teacher summer vacations. Few people understand or can appreciate the deep family roots and cycle of poverty in this region of the US, Hillbilly Elegy is a true story, and one that deserves accolades. Some of the critics might think of themselves as worldly, yet fail to muster the psychic energy which opportunes an entry into the Appalachia communal society, such as this brave story The yelling and painful wounding are particular to the telling of addictions so why critique the truth? We are searching for triumphant stories in this pandemic, soul-trying time, do I personally was moved and inspired.The women actors were wonderfully superb, in all their unglory!
