This film has a wonderful message. I took my 8 year old daughter and in all honesty, didn’t expect much but I was pleasantly surprised.
It is an emotional story. June is a little girl who’s mother becomes sick and it shows a demise in June’s spirit. She suffers psychologically when her mom goes away. She turns her back on what she loves because she misses her mom, and then becomes obsessed with making sure her dad is okay even though he is. Her own sadness is reflected back to her when she sees one of the character’s in her imaginary world displaying the same behavior as her, which in turn shows her she has some things she needs to change.
I see a deeper message there, one that won’t be apparent in the trailers, but valuable nonetheless. I believe my daughter cried during two touching moments in the film. I wasn’t really crazy about the theme park theme or the characters in her inaginary world. The main lesson in the film though, makes me give this film a thumbs up.
