I'm 67 and have been an avid reader all my life from an early age. This is a book I'd have never chosen myself, but as fate would have it, my sister bought it for me at a library sale among 6 or 8 other books about dogs and birds.
I will say this book is the best book I have ever read in my life. I plan to search to see if Gene Hill is still alive as the book was published in 1981. If he is, I plan to write to him and tell him of my admiration and respect for his writing style and humor and life philosophy. I plan to tell him that his book changed my life in many ways. I doubt he would do more than slightly shake his head the way people do when they're thinking, "Aw, shucks, it weren't nothing." But he is my new favorite author.
Thank you Gene Hill for being in this world at a time where I had the opportunity to read your written word. You're a good man and I feel a kindred spirit in you. I hope you either are having or had a great life. Jean Holder, Memphis, Tennessee
