Going into this movie I was excited. The original was a classic and bringing back Tony Todd was the right choice. After watching "Get Out" and "Us" i saw a trend in Peele's directing making sure to put social issues at the forefront. While thats not why I like Peele's movies, I can at least appreciate it. I think the issue I had with this movie was more my fault than the movies because I went in with some preconceptions of what it was going to be. In my opinion Tony Todd was what made the original so good and I thought he was severely underused. I did like the dark humor especially during the bathroom slaughters. I will definitely watch again to try to fully absorb everything it had to offer. After one viewing though I left the theatre a little confused and wishing the film had taken a different direction. Thats why watching films multiple times can be good though. Just one viewing its easy to miss underlying themes.
