The whole plot of the film is just a huge plot hole, brand new phones would NEVER have a pre-existing and still active phone number registered to it, this film is background noise on a Sunday afternoon at best, for something listed as a "romcom" it's certainly missing a huge amount of the com. I feel like this whole film was made just to give Celine Dion something to do
