The successor to The Godfather I & II. Real, Vivid, Dangerous, Intriguing, Terrifying... beautifully understated performances pointing up the dangerous and ruthless complexities of mob life; Thieving, threatening, and 'rubbing out' any opposition in riveting, almost brain freezing detail; dangerous loaded conversations constantly on the brink as the mobsters manoeuvre skilfully to either a desired end or an inevitable final solution when negotiations run out of road with only one violent option available. De Niro rises to prominence from truck driver to respected thief and murderer and eventually as confidant of the notorious Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa. Cold nerve jangling tension that leaves you tense with expectation of something to come. Scorsese and "The Boys" (De Nero, Pesci, Pacino Keitel etc.) the now tried and tested repertory of mobster Royalty, give us the best incite into the fear & danger of a life in the mob at that time. Surprising performances from of all people Ray Romano as the slick attorney. IMDB have given it 4 Stars a great recommendation for a film that will be watched over an over!

I watched this tonight for the first time in years. I have the CD. It was great first time around in 1977 and still is. Newman is superb and iconic as the Chiefs manager captain. Strother Martin is the under boss who wearing a german pork pie hat gives as always a funny enigmatic performance evading Newman's enquiring interrogations regarding the team's uncertain future in their small failing industrial town. The whole cast is a patchwork of characters and a joyous riot of debauchery and on ice punch ups. Its gritty and tough and a long way from the enhanced films of today which use CGI to fill out background, but never lacking in atmosphere. For me the best moment is when the giant bespectacled Hansons - three child like ice hockey giants - step onto the ice, slicing past the camera like killer destroyers at full throttle into the midst of a becalmed enemy looking the other way. They pound the opposition and suddenly the team's fortune begin to turn around. Its a great script and location, a gritty working class story that doesn't disappoint. Enough said. Well worth watching!

Is the program about Steve Backshall or is it about the animals. He seems to be in frame more than the animals. One thing I love about David Attenborough is its about the animals and when he's in shot, its usually with an animal. Just watching Steve Backshall with seals and Orcas it seemed he was the focal point or they were shooting over his shoulder. Very frustrating having cameras going back and forth. "Here comes the killer Whale...." back to Steve, "There's a Seal on the water's edge!" back to Steve.... etc. Its exhausting when you are hoping to watch a continuous drama! Who's watches it to see the crew!
