This film is all plot, no character. When I watched it, I felt like I was watching a documentary of the events at Dunkirk. None of the characters highlighted in the film were intriguing, mainly because none of their personality was explored. We don't know their other fears, motives, or traits. They had no goals other than to get off the beach, which would be an assumed goal for all the soldiers there. When this type of character portrayal happens, one does not feel the same type of worry when a character is in danger because we don't understand the character; we don't really care for them because they're simply there.
A positive, though, is that the directing, cinematography, and soundtrack are all outstanding. This film would've been so much better and entertaining if there were characters to follow that were intriguing and compelling instead of ones that were blank and practically empty.
