This movie is so touching several scenes brought me to tears. It develops slowly as slow is the making of the superb blue caftan in the title but worthy of seeing every minute. A movie about love, about suppressed sexuality, about the flaws of human nature but also the power of redemption through acts of love, devotion, kindness and forgiveness. The 3 characters are sympathetic and appealing, especially the ill wife who gives her blessing for her husband to love another man after she is gone and as she tells him: Don't be afraid to love.
The last scenes and the fate of the blue caftan tug at the heart. And the brief final scene is full of hope for a future free to love without repression any longer.
