I enjoy Battlefield 2042 and have been playing here and there since launch (on Xbox Series X and PC) and can say it has improved significantly over time. Many of the 2042 maps have been reworked and I think are in a good place. Being able to play some of the portal maps with a 2042 specialist/solider is cool too. At first I was sceptical about the specialists, but I think they seem to fit well now with the return of the classes system. I like the fact that they added the ability to play with and against AI, even in solo mode too.
With that said, there are some things that detract from the experience, even after all the patches. I wish that they would leave all maps (including all portal maps) and all game modes in permanent rotation instead of having them only show up in the main menu for a 'feature' week or month. If server browsers are becoming a thing of the past, then they should be keeping the main menu and ability to find the maps/modes you want consistent.
As someone who started playing the Battlefield series with Bad Company, I along with many others have lost trust with Dice and EA as a brand. This has been due to such a buggy, unfinished and rushed product release of 2042.
As of Season 6 release I would rate Battlefield 2042 81/100.
If you are considering purchasing the game, first do the free trial they sometimes offer or play on Gamespass.
