I watched the movie about ten or more years ago. Then I thought it was about manners and fine living. I watched it again this evening and it dawned on me that class structure makes empathy and compassion very difficult to see and feel. During the movie I felt quite angry at the Wilcox family for being so heartless and later I realized how the resistance to towards self-reflection when it comes to faults and errors is almost intractable and psychologicly it is easier to abuse others who suffer rather than help. But in the end the strongest were those who were guided by love rather than power and social status.
