Yoda ROSE

There is too much praise for this over-hyped movie. It is just an amalgam of old Top Gun 1986 characters and a Mission Impossible-type plot. It was kind of upsetting to see Ed Harris and Val Kilmer wheeled on into the movie for emotional effect although they represent probably a 40-50% reason so many liked who saw it initially. The special effects were o.k., but the music though loud didn't have the same invigorating and freshness of the original. Making a follow -up movie to one from 36 years before can't be easy, but that's the problem these days in Hollywood, where they can't seem to find fresh ideas and would rather just massage an old script and try to make a profit from capitalizing on old sentimentality. It's not original or fresh and the new characters don't impress. It may be a blockbuster at the box office but it demonstrates the deterioration of movie scripts where creativity has taken a back seat to CGI special effects.

Excellent Film with exceptional cinematography, great editing and a story built on a crescendo frenetic pace with lots of unusual action sequences and blood and trauma. This is not meant to be an intellectual or art film. This is mindless escape adventurism that will help rest your weary day to day routine and get you into a methamphetamine escapade. On the way you learn a little about genetic enhancement by viral splicing and something about mitochondrial efficiency. You also get a glimpse of the acrobatic and mesmerizing Jeremy Renner and the perfectly played scientist and naive savant Rachel Wise . ....Be careful if you are eating any candy bars, crumbly foods or soda pop because you might need to have someone perform an Heimlich maneuver on you. Pure adrenalin and suspense..the music score is also enjoyable. See this film and you won't need to think .. VERY WELL DONE!!!

Bad film. Too long, excessive and obsessive devotion to comic book type film noir. Choice of Pattinson for lead role is bizarre. He grunts and mumbles through his scenes as Batman, and looks like a dishevelled junkie, or Frankenstein clone when in civilian scenes. Cat girl is so small and thin she looks like she would break in half if confronted by any sort of violence. This film must have cost a great deal in time and money to make and in view of it's 3 hour length, I would hate to see what was left on cutting room floor....Despite being Reeves son, this is an exhaustive error in directing as it is slower than molasses in January. Longer film time is not better but boringly tedious. Trying to outdo previous versions of Batman and other directors probably contributed to this costly mess. Sitting through this film from start to finish is like having a bad tooth pulled excruciatingly slow despite how meticulous this dentist tries to be. This reminds me of old Chinese water torture..death by ten thousand drops....

He is strident, he is loud, he is in love with himself. He uses his hands in many instances like Bill O'Reilly whom he came up under. He is much better on "The Five" where he shows good debating and some humor skills when confined to a few minutes window to talk. Otherwise his show is a narcissistic rant in which he laughs loudly at his own poor jokes and shows very weak interviewing skills. He is not Don Rickles, nor even Greg Gutfeld. He is a boor. Not convincing as a Conservative, not mature. An annoying college sophomore out on the town with too much to drink..?!! Is this the best Fox could find for 7pm hour? He is almost as bad as Lisa Kennedy, an escapee from MTV who come to think of it, may in fact be his long lost older sister....

To find meaning in something is not the same as finding that meaning is valuable or wise or helpful. To examine a canvas on which the artist has randomly thrown paint splatter may be transiently interesting but so is mud splatter on the side of a wall or on a car or a raincoat. This film is like a story told by a drunk or stoner or a 9 year old trying to explain a book he is reading but doesn't have the ability to organize the plot. The subject material is sex, murder, violence, and comic book humor. The purpose of this exercise seems to be voyeurism, preferably under the influence of a couple tokes of your favorite joint material...Perhaps I'm not facile enough to perceive some subtle creativity in this mess..or maybe it's the headache it has given me that's what's disorienting..Whatever, maybe you'll find the hidden gem that this production company has wasted lost time and money on. This is a Film School project that has gone astray....!!??!!

The main problem with this movie is Ben Affleck. His whole demeanor is that of a tired passive weary whisperer of a gangster who goes about his role like he just recovered from a depressive illness and is just too tired to really get into his character. The movie tempo and film editing is of the same passive pattern. It is like a canoe or sailboat that is drifting drifting without a ridder or someone to guide it. The story itself should make for a crackling good yarn..and the actors and budget are more than respectable. I get the feeling that Affleck may have been burned out from so many other projects that he ran out of gas on this one. The sets are great but the story drones on too long and the ending is anticlimactic and overly sentimental. It could benefit from good editing and another class at Film School on directing.

A confusing plot, with voluminous efforts by the characters to try to explain fruitlessly what is happening makes for a bad headache. The dialog is stilted, choppy and sophomoric and delivered amongst competingly distractive background sounds. The characters are shallow in the script and suffer from the compulsive need to get to the next action special effects scene. The casting is really odd with very tall actors and small actors with competingly complex accents and strange camera work. This looks like throwing a lot of production money at a project because of Christopher Nolan's prior films. Despite it's big scenery and special effects it is poorly stitched together and looks more like an expensive film-school project gone wrong. Too many reviewers seem afraid to call out the choppy plot, borderline acting, and bizarre stitched together mess that this is. Michael Cimino where are you now???
