Jo Sunderland

I read this book in the mid 80s, as a young, 17 year old woman and have never forgotten the impact it had on me. Written from the personal perspectives of different people, over the decades, it drew me into their world completely. I couldn’t put this book down. I loved the attention to historical detail, as I learnt so much about the history of it all too. I’ve recommended this book to so many people and recently bought it again, as I’d obviously lent my copy out and lost it in the process. My only criticism is that it ended too soon.
