This was an amazing movie that brought tears to my eyes. The Pashto and Dari were excellent. I commend the actor who played Ahmed for learning it so well, even the subtle hand gestures of placing one hand over the heart when saying "Salam." I was in the military and later worked for Afghan refugees in Peshawar. This movie reminded me of both of those former positions and those wonderful people who walked the journey with me. Some things that I felt were inaccurate- a two vehicle convoy. It's usually 4. The scene were John meets Ali in the chai khana and Ali doesn't stand up. Any Afghan would stand up to meet his guest and greet him. This is a HUGE part of Afghan hospitality. I believe this also happened when Ahmed was dragging John through the mountains he came upon the group of nomads. They definitely would have greeted each other a bit more eloquently. Dari/Farsi is a language full of "tarof" or quite elaborate, poetic formalities/greetings/gestures. Another observation was that there seemed to be unlimited AK rounds, but I understand what was done for cinematic value. Us old vets are probably the only ones who noticed. All in all, this might be my favorite movie in a LONG time! I highly recommend!
