An absolutely sexy nuanced critique of the greed, immorality and decadence of the Brahman caste in India using the metaphor of monsters to make its point. Tumbbad is a wonderful tribute to the Faustian tradition of the perils of making a deal with the devil set in the rigorous period of India's rigid caste system that decrees a son must follow in the footsteps of his father - regardless of how he may never be able to fill his father's shoes, beautifully metaphored with a limp in the heir's tread through the film. Loved the film, a refreshing and original piece of cinema and a winner of the first statuette in the genre of classy fantasy horror in Bollywood
