Not the typical serial killer movie. Anna Kendrick proves herself to be a very accomplished first-time director, paying less attention to the killer than to his victims and the pervasive sexism they must navigate. Visually interesting and beautifully photographed. Strong performances, not just from Kendrick herself, but also from the victimized women, especially Nicolette Robinson and newcomer Autumn Best, who is memorably heartbreaking as the runaway, Amy. Daniel Zovatto is chilling as the killer, though somewhat less creepy-looking than the real Rodney Alcala.
