Oh boy.
I waited to give this thing a review after I had seen every episode to be fair. Major spoilers below if you’re still considering watching this show. (I recommend you don’t)
The action is, for the most part, very good. Disney really seemed like they upped the game with the choreography and that aspect I really appreciated. Unfortunately, it’s basically all downhill from there. Strictly from a story perspective, it’s an absolute mess. I don’t even know what most of the characters motivations are half the time and I don’t think they know either. From the start it’s made pretty clear that Osha is good and Mei is evil. Then later on basically out of the blue, both characters have a change of heart and Mei suddenly decides she doesn’t want to kill people anymore and Osha falls to the dark side even after telling Qamir that she’d never join him. The writing is just a mess, there’s so many moments that just look silly, like Sol only being able to save one child as he’s holding up the bridges with the force, you know, instead of just using the force to lift both osha and mei instead of the collapsing bridge beneath them. Or how Mei somehow set a stone temple on fire with a lantern. The characters are also very uninteresting. Sol was probably my favorite character if that even means anything. Unfortunately, he gets gaslit into thinking what he did was wrong when all he was trying to do was give two young children living in a cult of witches, that definitely have an evil aspect to them, a choice. Osha kills Sol out of the blue because she hates that he killed her mother? The father figure she’s cared so much for for the last 17 years of her life and she just snaps and force chokes him to death? Ok I guess. The visuals of this show really aren’t that stunning either considering the budget of 180 million. Coruscant noticeably looks pretty lackluster in most of the shots. Overall from a show perspective, really not great.
What makes this show truly abhorrent is how it spits in the face of Star Wars by breaking cannon left and right for no reason. Ki adi mundi being in the show makes zero sense whatsoever. Not only was he not even born during this time, but it completely contradicts what he says in the phantom menace about there not being any threats to the Jedi for a millennium. And he was literally there while all of these Jedi were being killed! The cover up of the sith by blaming it on sol was absolutely ridiculous and the fact no Jedi even questioned it is silly. Then there’s the Plagueis cameo. He shows up in the background for like 6 seconds and that’s it. No lines, nobody notices him, no explanation whatsoever. I don’t even think Plagueis would have been around during this time either.
TLDR: I don’t think I’ve ever see a tv show this horrendous in my entire life.
There’s a lot left unanswered, but I really hope there isn’t a season 2 because this was a complete and utter dumpster fire of a show. Maybe one day Disney will learn not have people who don’t even know what Star Wars is direct a Star Wars tv show. I’m really glad that this show is finally over and I hope the reviews really speak for how awful this joke of a show was.
