This recent entry is without a doubt a glorified DLC to its predecessor MW2 down from its UI and relentless promotions of microtransaction which you are greeted by each time you log in to funny enough the maps themselves. The game brands itself as MW3 but does not shy away from releasing MW2 maps in its launch without a single new original map whilst charging close to £70 for the standard edition and slightly over £100 for the vault edition.
The campaign was a stark departure from what the series is loved for suffering from tedious missions in particular the first two open combat missions upon almost half the missions are of that kind, which in theory would have seem like an innovative step in the right direction turned out to be less of a sandbox but more of a dumpster fire. There are moments that shine in the campaign which not surprisingly carry the same tune as the old and linear style of missions.
The multiplayer is drastically better than MW2 time to kill is lengthier, the guns have less visual recoil, overall visibility is improved and the carry forward system is a welcomed addition. Past features such as the map voting system and minimap red dots have returned which were unnecessarily omitted from MW2 don't fix what is not broken. However the one major factor that has and well deservedly sparked controversy is the furtherance of Skill based matchmaking (SBMM). I have myself played COD over the years at some titles even at a competitive level averaging games around a 2+ KD as a solo player. I now hold a KD just south of that but it is evident at the games that i am playing often being matched with players holding top 250 ranked calling cards that this will go further down i do not really find this metric important however it is a real indication that public games that i intend to play at a casual place are akin to games i would play at league/ranked level this quandary is relayed by a lot of the player base but unfortunately it is here to stay. From my perspective the game is almost an entirely different experience form my partner having played on her account with her level and experience the standard of opposition and quality of games is defined and drastically contrasted to mine.
Admittedly i do not have any playtime with the zombies game mode as it isn't my strong suit it looks interesting but the DMZ style approach pales in comparison to the run and gun classic.
